Newly Adopted Pup
We just adopted a lab mix puppy (3 months old) on Saturday. She did great with her food Sat night and Sunday. Monday morning she would not eat or drink anything and threw up on our walk. With all of the adaptations to a new home- I assume she is nervous. How long is she OK without water if she doesn't want to drink it?

Have you had her checked by a Vet yet?
Going without food is one thing, without water even for a few hours can be very dangerous for a puppy. If you have not already done so, get her to a vet for a thorough checkup

Have you tried to get her to take water from your hand? Maybe she will take some that way. I'm a little worried about her throwing up though. Is she up to date on all of her shots? I know it's a requirement that all pups have their shots before they leave the shelters in a lot of places now, but I don't know about where you live.

I called the vet and they said she is probably adjusting to the new food since she is alert and happy, just refuses to eat and drink. We ran out of the food from the shelter yesterday and so last night she had a new kind of food. I am taking her in at 1 pm today to see the vet for her first check up so he will look more closely. She seems just fine- just no water intake which really scares me. Luckily we will go in soon.
Thanks for your advice! I am sure we will be posting a lot since this is our first puppy!

I'm happy to hear that you are getting her into the vet right away. It likely is the change in her diet. It takes them awhile to adapt. It's also good to be cautious though, when you first bring them home.
High five to you for rescuing your new little girl. I have a rescued Lab mix also, and she is the best little girl in the world!. well, I'm a little biased I guess. ;)
Feel free to come and ask us any questions. It's hard to diagnose many things over the internet, so quite often if it is a health problem, we don't want to say the wrong thing, but there are some things that are pretty obvious to us.
Welcome to the site. I think you'll like it around here! :)
... give us an update when she's back from her checkup!

I took her into the vet and they took fecal samples. She did not have a high temp and her test for parvo came back negative (thank goodness). The vet sent me home with some bland canned food and something similar to pepto-bismo for dogs. Hopefully she starts feeling better. We are supposed to withhold food and water until 6 pm and then try it all again. Thanks again for your help- I am so glad we went in.

That's great! :D It's always nice to hear that everything is fine, and she's got a clean bill of health. It doesn't always work that way here, so we love it when we hear that!
My Niki sends puppy hugs! Best of luck! :)
