My son has a child with a young lady. The baby is 5 months old. She will not allow him to see the baby unless it is in her home, she lives with her parents, where they all talk behind his back. He has not paid any child support yet as she won't talk to him about working out details of visitation, custody etc. Everything has to be on her terms. She will bring the baby to my house for us to visit but again when it is convenient to her. I want the baby to be here when my son can visit him, but she conveniently finds other things that have to be done on those days so the baby can't be here. It should be noted that 2 years ago my son was caught with some pot, but those days are over. He is in school 5 days a week from early in the morning until mid afternoon, and then he goes to work right after school and works till 10 or 11 pm. The reason he took this job was so that he could support his son while in school. They live in Illinois as do we. He is only off on Thursday nights as he works 6 nights a week. I've asked to have the baby here on Thursday nights so my son can get to know his baby but that is a night she gets drunk in bars and so she sends the baby to another grandparent that night to spend the night. Should we go to court?

If your son wants a relationship with his son he has to go to court. Yes, that's what the courts are for.

He needs to file an action to establish his parentage and simultaneously seek custody and visitation orders. If the mom is a drunk, perhaps he should seek custody of the child and the mom can visit on weekends.

He took a job to support his son but he isn't sending money for child support because he and the mother don't get along?

He needs to go to Court and request visitation, custody if he can prove the mother is unfit. Support will then be Court ordered.

Did the mother have these problems at the time she got pregnant with the child?
