AgNO3 + MgCl2 -> AgCl + Mg(NO3)2

Note that you need 2 AgNO3 to produce two NO3s on the right. If you put 2 Ag atoms on the left, you need to balance it with two on the right:

Count the number of nitrates on each side of the equation. Multiply one side with some number to match the number on the other side. Proceed with the chlorides. Then fiddle with the magnesium and silver atoms until it balances. It's really not very hard.

I agree. I also know that most students have more than one problem to solve. You talk them through the solution pattern once and they can figure out the rest. Refusing to help them doesn't do much to advance their education. I don't believe that most posters simply want to get it done fast so they can party. I think that most want to understand the process.

I remember very well, when I was in junior high school. I had a teacher who refused to explain to me *how* something was done. It took over a year until I found a teacher who simply showed me how to do one problem. It was so obvious -- once I had been shown how to do it -- that from then on, I didn't need any more help.
