    Taxes, marriage and immigration.
    Hi All,

I married a wonderful woman from Ecuador in 2008. We were married in August and she will be joining me here in the U.S. in April, pending her final immigration interviews. How does all this affect my tax filing for 2008?

    Thanks!

For tax year 2008 you are considered married and you may file jointly.
However she will need a tax identification number.
You could file an extension (Form 4868) and wait until she gets her social security number before filing for 2008.

If you are a U.S. citizen or resident, then you can file joint return as residents. You must both declare your worldwide income for the year.
