    Water from Bath room sink running into Bathtub
    The water from my bathroom sink is draining into my bathtub. I have tried snaking the tub through overflow, tried snake through J tubing under sink but can't get far. I even tried chemicals and nothing seems to work. Is there some sort of secret, or technique that I am not doing correctly to unclog this bothersome problem or do I have to call in a plumber? Please help, going on my second day!!

    You snaked from the wrong place. Remove the tub waste and overflow assembly and run a snake through the tubs over flow,(see image) you shouldn't have to put out much over 10 feet in the average bath to reach the clog. After flush with a tub of hot water. Good luck and thank you for rating my answer. Tom

    I tried that but the snake doesn't seem to want to go farther than 1 foot is there another way in?

    You have to clear tub's P-trap. Use small diameter snake, like 1/4". It is flexible enough to clear that turn...

    You have to play with it. It doesn't always go easily. Use gloves and keep pushing...

    How old mis your home? Older homes built in the 20s and 30's saometimes have drum traps that can not be snaked. But Milo's correct. You'll run into a "U" bend about 18 inches down. Work around that and all you should gave left is 10 or 12 feet more to go. Good luck, Tom

    OK so I was able to find the pipes behind the wall for the tub. The reason I can't get the snake through is because directly after u shaped tube it goes up about 2 inches and then makes a sideways u bend into main pipe. Can I dissassemble this tubing to snake from behind?

    The U shaped pipe should be P-trap which should be removable. Remove it, insert snake through that opening. Reinstall the same trap after you are finished snaking...

    Milo's correct! Remove the U shaped return bend and send your snake up the downstream side of the drain line. Once past the last bend put out 12 foot more of snake or until you run into the stack.. Good luck, Tom
