Dead Beat Dad wants to sign over parental rights in NH
My daughters father is a drug addict in rehab right now, he has not bought a single thing for her besides a bag of diapers, which 3 days later asked me to pay him back for. He is a 26 year old child, while I am only 19 trying my hardest to do well for my daughter and raise her as best as I can. He hasn't seen her for over a month, and didn't even call me back when I left him a message on his vmail stating she was in the hospital in the ICU. She is only 15 weeks old and doesn't even know him at all. I am wondering how I go about signing over his parental rights, which he has aggred to do. I live in the state of New Hampshire, while he resides in Massachusettes, will this cause problems? I think that it is in the best interest of my daughter if she does not see him. My father growing up was just like hers and he caused a lot of problems in my life, including being the cause of my depression and PTSD, and I DO NOT want my daughter to go through the same thing I was forced to. What do I do, I truly believe signing over his rights is best, am I wrong? If not how do I go about doing it?
Thanks for your time,
Cassandra

Hello Cassandra:
You are wrong, and you can't do it.
What you want to do has been discussed here THOUSANDS of time. Everything there is to be said about it has been said ALL OVER THE PLACE, right here.
Please, go read some of those threads. I promise you. EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about it, is there.
If NOT, come back and ask. But, go read them first.

Unless he became a drug addict recently then he was at the time you 2 hooked up. So why would the courts think that its not OK for him to remain ?
Another thing is that you use the term " dead beat dad ". Sorry I don't see it and its so over used it doesn't hold anymore. He's a drug addict.. not a dead beat. He's in rehab. Maybe he will make it maybe he won't. But until he actually gets rid of the problem he will remain a drug addict. So when you use the term deadbeat realize its 2 very different things.
He has major problems.
