What can I do to keep the rooms above the garage warm?:confused:

Check for insulation in ceiling and it may need more. Look to see if there is venting in the ridge vent ( roof peak) and soffit ( overhang out side) for insulation that's there to breath and not retain moisture.
Is there insulation in the ceiling of the garage. If so how much and check to see if the vapor barrier is against the floor ply above. If not and you see the face/kraft paper stapled to the bottom floor joist garage ceiling side then its back wards and needs changed for ( R) value to maintain

The next site is about Ice dams on roofs but I posted it because it shows proper venting of a roof which is important for insul value. If all is well then its possible the heating in that area is insufficient.

Can you fill that in for us to evaluate for sufficient heating.

Check to see if the insulation there is dry enough to add more and increase the (R) value.

Don't know what your Geo is for (R) rating. Generally its (R) 30 9" thick.

If all is venting well and the insul above the ceiling/attic is dry add some UN- Faced insulation on top of old insul.

21 gave you some good advice. These rooms are generally cold in the winter and warm in the summer because they frequently have 3 outside walls and an unheated space below them. You can also turn your thermostat fan switch to ON rather than AUTO. This uses only slightly more electricity and it keeps rooms more evenly tempered. If you garage ceiling is insulated you can add a rigid foam board insulation that comes in a 4x8x2" sheet. Seams should be taped to further stop air infiltration.
