Repl 3 speed chain now fan won't work but light does
My chain broke and I replaced it, my pattern on old switch was L=black, 1=purple, 2=grey 3=brown. I have a purle thin wire coming from the reverse switch that I don't know where it goes, also have a greyish thin wire coming from up the fan hole. I've tried wrapping them together but no luck. The light work when I connect it, it's a wall switch connection.
I tried putting the purple wire in with the purple wire to slot 1 and then the fan hums but does not turn. Any help?

Are you sure that's how the old switch was?

You might not have the correct new switch.

USUALLY all wires of the same color connect together.

    What make is the fan?
