Plaintiff's attorney requested earlier hearing than set

How can I obtain a postponement for a hearing which was originally set for a month from now? I unexpectedly received a copy of a request to the judge for a date which is 9 days from now. I do not have an attorney.
    Thank you,

If a court date had already been set by the court, and the other side requested a different date, then normally they would have to ask for your consent to an earlier date. Send a letter to the court that you are not available for hearing on the date requested by the plaintiff and also inform them that you do not have an attorney at this time.
