    Ty Luna,

I guess it is my turn to ask if that is really you!? LOL

    Just kidding.

I got done studying 13 chapters for school on Monday, no drinking. Better catch up with the rest of them I guess. Can I make you a drink?

BTW, since you asked about the pics, my hubby used to be a professional photographer. Went to Winona School of Photography in Chicago.

was curious about the pics... they looked too well done to be the normal done at homes...

cant drink with 13 chapters to go? Hell, my students used to show up to organic chem in the evening with biiiig glasses of, well, something. You could always tell the ones who were getting lit in your evening classes. They were the ones having too much fun. =)

Ah, hubby is old fashioned too. Digital stuff just doesn't get him excited. He like to be able to manipulate. He got his degree at Winona, but things have changed so dramatically since he was in school, more than 15 years ago. He still likes to use his large format cameras though.

Rae my 12 1/2 year old is now getting into photography. She is really taking after Dad.

Well, KP, you know the old rule...

You don't have test anxiety if you have a couple of drinks in you.

And, Organinc Chem is next semester for me. I might need you even more then.

you can always bounce questions this way. Some conceptual stuff can be answered online... a few students would email now and then.

there used to be a pizza hut within a block of my building. You could always see the pharmacy student herd to the beer and pizza after one of our tests. I imagine they had a designated note taker for the rest of the afternoon classes. =)

    KP, what about Dinensional Analysis?

I understand that it is the same as Factor Label Method, which was my worst by the way.

Do you know an easy way to learn that one?

the only issue is when my method is different from the instructors. Most use dimensional analysis, which works really well when you know how to use it.

lets say I want to know how far I go driving 60 miles/hour and I drive 30 min. we probably know without doing the math that you'd drive 30 miles in 30 min.

but mathematically you set it up so the units cancel so
60 miles/hour * 0.5 hour = 30 miles*hour/hour = 30 miles... the hour on top cancels the hour on the bottom, and you are left with miles.

now lets say you want to know if you are driving 80 miles per hour and you drive 20 miles. How long do you drive? Well... you want to end up with time on top

you need to take 20 miles and divide by 80 miles/hour. When you divide miles by miles it cancels, and the hour flips up. So 0.25 hours.

it is easier to write this out by hand than to type it.

you always need to get the units in the same terms... so if you are dealing with milliliters, all the volumes need to be expressed in milliliters.

then you look for what it is you want in the answer. Liters? Moles? Atoms? etc.

if you have have 2.3 moles of a compound, and you want to know how many atoms there are you need to know the conversion, 6.02 *10^23 atoms/mole.

so here you multiply 2.3 moles * (6.02*1023atoms/mole) = 13.8 * 10^23atoms, because moles were on top and bottom so they cancel. Its like 5/5 =1. then you'd probably adjust the powers of 10... so 1.38*10^24.

allllllriiigghttty then. I think well need to start a new thread for more work, as this seems a little heavy for the lounge.

at least itd need to be a problem, then a shot. Ill take a wildfire, thank you.

I have been told that it does not matter what method I use, only if I get the correct answer.

Oh, you had to say moles!!

    Theoretical Yield!!

Sheesh, this will be a new thread, but one that I am sure could be beneficial to the site. Ya want to start a new one and leave the Lounge for fun?

Man, you already have me messed up. I think I need a drink.

Jeeze, Rae just turned up Vanilla Ice, that is all I need right now!!

    No. Fuzzy brain, yeah.

OK here's another one. Have you (dont laugh) ever had your tongue cramp?

    I said don't laugh.

And no, its not as dirty as it sounds unfortunately.

I have had this happen maybe 5-6 six times in my life, always when I was yawning big. Hurts like M A A A A D.

But my wife and daughter don't believe me... or they just make fun of me saying, "hep me. my ongue iz rampin op"

    I said don't laugh.
