    Appenzeller a rare breed
    I have a female appenzeller mountain dog,I am trying to find a male (pup)does anyone know where I could purchase one.They are very rare does anybody know the population of this breed.I heard it numbers around 600 to 700 in the world

    Hi, I'm not sure what country you are from but here in australia we have a national breeders register. I'm sure most countries would have the same sort of thing :)

    Here is the code of ethics that AMDCA has established for your breed;

    APPENZELL MOUNTAIN DOG CLUB OF AMERICA

    It is a rarer breed, therefore any breeding should be left to experts that know genetics and are committed to preserving the bloodlines of this breed.

    I'm not sure if you're thinking of breeding, but if you are please keep in mind that there is more to breeding then getting a male and female dog to have a litter of pups.

    Very true Altenweg,
    Bear in mind that such a strange breed might be hard to sell so you could end up being stuck with a herd of pups that you can't sell to good homes.
    In regards to the genetic side, If you know the dogs background and do your research properly that shouldn't be an issue (assuming you have at least some breeding experience, it's not as easy as mating them and a few weeks later they pop out!)
