Fill Valve Issues
I have a toilet that shut off the incoming water to the fill valve after the toilet is flushed. I have tried 3 new fill valves but the same thing happens with all the fill valves, the water shuts off after flushing. I disconnected the incoming water line to the fill valve and I have a good strong water flow. Now after I reconnect the water line I may get at least two normal flushes and the water flow stops. I am at a loss unless there is a problem in the angle shut off valve.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can share on this problem.
By the way I have a similar type of fill valve as I have seen posted in some of the answers on this site, a 400A type.

So are you saying that after 2 flushes the tank will drain, toilet will flush but the 400a just sits low in the tank and does not allow water to refill the tank?

Not sue I'm on the correct page, but if I am the answer to your question is yes. If I flush the toilet the bowel and tank will empty and the water valve will slam shut with a bang(small) and water will not come back into the tank. Some time if I cut the shut off valve off and turn it back on maybe a quarter turn the tank will fill and toilet flushes fine, but if I go to full open the water shuts off with out having the float move at all. I have physically moved the float up and down manually but still no results.

Sounds like you have some debris after the shut off (stop cock) and before the fill tube. The debrius could be inside your valve. They are rebuildable or you can replace a fluidmaster 400A for about $13. Its up to you.

If understand correct you have a Fluidmaster 400A fill valve and ballengerb1 (Bob) is saying you have dirt between the angle valve and the fill valve, before you replace I would suggest to see the pictures below, close the angle valve, remove the cap step 1, remove the seal step 2, hold your hand on top of the fill valve step 3 ask some one to open the angle valve to flush out the dirt, close the angle valve and reassemble the fill valve try if it is fixed. If not then replace the fill valve assembly as Bob suggested, good luck.

Thank you both I will give both your suggestions a try and see if I ca track down the problem. I changed out one of these valves a week ago on a separate toilet, no issues, so there must be ither something in the valve and/or something trapped in the fill valve assembly.
Thanks again

Toilet fill valve

I replaced the fill valve in my toilet and the water will not fill up in the tank. When I disconnect the pipe between the shut off and tank, I can turn the water "on" and nothing happens. The sink and shower both work but the water won't go to the toilet. What can I do to fix this problem?
