Young Dancers Being More Advanced Than Me
I have been a dancer for 14 years and have ALWAYS loved it. Ever since I was younger I was always one of the "best" dancers at my dance academy. I was in all advanced classes by the age of 9 or 10. Lately I have noticed younger girls coming up and they are almost as advanced as I am. I noticed at competitions there are other academies with the same situation. Is it a new generation of dancers or am I just not getting any better?

I think its just like that. As time goes by... there will always be new set of dancers who'll be better that u. each class is a competition but even if there are other dancers promoted to advanced class that doesn't mean that you're not good. You just have to strive more and keep on aiming high! Don't let anyone take your place :)

    Hi, KatieLynn_31892!

I totally agree with the answer above! Being as competitive as any area of the performing arts is, a person must always be striving to be on the top or at least among the best if they want to maintain those positions.

There's always going to be someone "over the mountain" who will be better or want to take your place. Really, there's room for anyone who wants to be among the best, because not everyone can be performing in the same place at the same time.

Even if two dancers are identically talented and skilled and maybe both might be deemed to be the best by peers and also members of an audience, there will still be factors such as style and interpretation that peers, members of an audience or even judges that will make someone favor one of two "equals" over the other because of a matter of what the observer "likes" more. Such a thing at certain levels of performance is a matter of subjective opinion.

Think about the athletes who compete in the Olympics every four years. Records are broken all the time. People who strive to be the best serve as examples to others who also want to be the best.

People who strive to be the best, can also be commended, in a way, for being "teachers" because of being the fine examples for others to follow.

I did edit your original question slightly, so that it would be more likely to have people come along to address it.

    Thanks!
