Can't get my Internet to work with 2 comps
While gutting my house I wired each room with ethernet ports. My internet has been working great for the past 2 years. Yesterday, while hardwiring my Wii, I added a Linxsys 5-port wired router so I would have the internet going to my comp and the Wii. After cycling off the modem I was finally able to get the Wii hooked up to the net. But then my comp said "limited or no connectivity" When I pulled the cord on the Wii and restarted the modem, the Internet on my comp worked fine.
Today I disconnected the Wii and tried using the modem and router to work with 2 comps. I can get one comp on the net at a time, but the other comp always says "limited or no connectivity." I know the cables are okay because when I disconnect the router I can get each comp to work fine on its own.
What's my next step?

5 port router or 5 poist switch? Bet it's the latter.
Everything you said is confusing, so I'm going to ask a few questions.
Assume that you added a 5 port switch. I could be wrong here, though.
When you tested each one at a time, they were connected by themselves to the newly added switch: Yes or No?
What kind of service do you have? Cable, DSL or other?
What modem and/or router model(s) are you using. If you can, post a link.

I have cable internet through Cablevision. The modem is Webstar by Scientific Atlanta and the router is a Linksys SD205 5 port 10/100 switch. When I tested each one, the comps were both connected, but only one machine was powered on at a time.

In case the one with the vista loaded on it says that error?
Try right clicking on the icon where this message pops up and try to do some setting in the windows diagnostic manager , most probably try to check some default setting in the network field...

OK, you got a switch.
Connect and power up the Vista machine. It will work, so OK.
Now power up the XP machine. Go to the CMD prompt and type "ipconfig /renew"
