Hi Rod1234... the fact that you've just finished a period, could be a clue... maybe it was a change in hormone balance that sometimes comes during a period... it could be that it might affect the most sensitive places.

Have you changed a product that you have been using to something different recently... maybe a shower gel or perhaps a deodorant.

It could also be a new soap powder or fabric softener or maybe you've purchased a new bra' that you've worn before washing... sometimes the finish on the underwear garments can be quite abbrasive to the skin especially something as sensitive as the nipple area.

Just a few things to think about.. in the mean time, try using a small dressing over the nipple area before putting on your bra', this will stop the friction and enable the skin to heal.

If, having gone through some of the suggestions, you still have a problem, go and see your GP I'm sure he will be able to sort it out.

It's possible that you may have a yeast infection. That is if you are not pregnant. Also if you are having sex regularly where as you may have only had sex a few time previously, your hormones can change. You are a woman who is menstruating, hormonally changing, and having intercourse. I would highly recommend seeing an OBGYN. If you don't have health insurance you can go to planned parenthood or your local health department. They have Dr. who are very qualified and inexpensive and sometimes free.
