    Unusual cut on my finger
    Hello:

About a month or so ago, I cut my index finger on some sheet metal pretty deep. From the looks of it, it went in about 3/16" of an inch. When it first happened I had to change the bandage about every other hour. Then I went to sleep that night, when I woke up, I changed the bandage again. I would change the bandage twice a day for about two days. To my surpise he wound healed real nice, considered I never went to the doctor, I just kept it clean and applied antibiotic ointment to it regularly. By the 4th day, I was leaving the bandage off all together at night, and by the 6th day I was not wearing a bandage at all, just being easy with it.

Now it's a month later, and I'm not really concerned, just curious, this is the deepest cut I've ever had, and its healed nicley, as I said, there is a very evident scar left, but if I hit the finger where the cut is at against something real hard, it gets sore for about 10 minutes. For instance, the other day, I grabbed a car door handle the wrong way and my finger slipped off it and hit the finger the wrong way.

Other than that it doesn't bother me at all, it does still have this "tuff skin" feeling in it. Almost like there is super glue on my finger.

I'm wondering if this is permanent, or will it eventually get back to normal in time.

    I never had it stitched...

I think a really deep cut probably takes a while to heal all the way through especially if really deep. If muscle was cut, that might take longer than the skin. Think of it like an underlying bruise. I'll probably take some time. If it isn't red and inflamed, then it shouldn't be infected. But with regards to a scar, you'll probably have one for a while or maybe even permanently. BUT, I'm not a doctor, so if you are concerned I'd at least consult one.

What you are experiencing is normal healing. You need to remember that the "meat" on your fingers is not very thick like say your forearm and of course you will be experiencing the stiffness of the skin. I'd give it another month or so and you probably won't even notice it any more.

    Thanks for the responses.
To resond myself, no the skin doesn't look unusual. Everything is the proper color, generally speaking it does't bother me, just every once in a while (maybe once a week) I strike it the wrong way it it hurts for a few minutes.

Just more of a curiosity. Nothing to rush to the doctor about. Maybe something to bring up if I'm already at the doctor for something else and it's still an issue down the road...
