Jeep Grand Cheroke limited model 1995
Hello sir I am using a Jeep Grand Cheroke limited model 1995, and my question is regarding Transmission(Gears) Automatic gears.
The problem I am facing is that, the gears are not shifting.first gear shifts taking a little time and with a little jerk. But ater 1st its not shifting to 2nd or even higher.
Some times it shifts.
And 1more strange thing that, when the temperature is cool i.e when it is parked overnight and when I satrt in morning, after warming a little the gears work properly but as I drive for let say 30min or 60mins and park my car(till now everything going oky) and if again I start driving lets say after 10min, 15min, or even 1hour and than whole day the gears doesn't work, I mean the same consition reappear which I stated above..
I had changed the copmlete Transmission oil+filter+gaskit(the seal) and my oil level is up to max mark but still no difference.its now 1 or 2 week the oil seems to be fresh but I don't know why its smelly!!
Sir please reply me back as soon as possible because I am suffering in high tention.
I will wait.
Bye hopping to here soon.
Ahmed

YOu need to have your Jeep looked at as it obviously has transmission problems that just changing the transmission fluid or changing the filter screen solved. It could be costly, but it will definitely be more costly if you don't do something now before the entire transmission freezes up and won't change gears at all.
Did you change the transmission fluid yourself or did you have it pressure pumped out properly? You might have left a lot of large particles in the transmission system doing it himself.

When you have the transmission fluid changed out in your vehicle it should be done with pressure being used. It is literally pumped out and new fluid pumped in. Just draining it out with gravity does not screen out the small particles. I have a 1994 Jeep GC 4WD. When I had my transmission fluid changed, it was done with a machine that pumped out the old fluid under pressure and replaced it with new fluid. After having this done, my Jeep shifted very smoothly and when it got to the gear where it would have shifted into overdrive (usually around 50MPH) the transmission shifted into overdrive so smoothly I had to actually look at the tachometer to see this was happening as it shifted so smoothly.
Was the screen changed out at the time your transmission fluid was changed out? Yes, there can be a lot of particles left in the system causing problems.
How many miles do you have on your Jeep? I have close to 180,000 on mine.

I today in morning I checked my fulid level when the car temperatuer was cool, the level was oky up max.mark.
But when I drove it for about 1hour and again I checked the level, the level was below the minium level(when the engine was hot). So I added the fluid. And now its oky but when I check there was lots of air bubbles mixed in the fluid, now what's that it shows!!

When you changed the filter & fluid, did you refill the transmission with ATF+4 synthetic fluid?
Also, when you said you checked the fluid was your vehicle running? Where are you seeing the bubbles?

Hi, if this is the fluid name "ATF+4 synthetic fluid" than not with this fluid, I refilled with "Motorcraft Type M".
No vechicle was not running, the engine was running,I mean car was ststionary but enging was on,and from wher you refill the fluid from there, when I took the rod out to check the oil level there it shows the fluid is up to max mark and there no rod it shows the air bubbles.
I hope you got it.if not I am ready to explain you again.
If this is the fluid name ATF+4 synthetic fluid so is it necessary to refill with this fluid only, why?
Thanks bye

Motorcraft Type M fluid is designed for Ford transmissions. Drain it out immediately!
ATF+ 4 fluid is designed for Chrysler/Jeep transmissions and it is imperative that you replace the fluid with the correct one.

No wonder it had bubbles in the fluid. It is imperative that the proper fluid be used. I hope you didn't drive your Jeep too much with the wrong fluid in it!
