    MS Word
I have Window XP and I have some files on the desktop, and I wanted to send them to My Documents

I opened up the doc and saved it to my documents. When I looked for it, I clicked the start button and clicked my recent documents and it was there and not in my documents.

So I thought if I deleted it in my Recent Document, it would end up in My Document. But it didn't. How do I get a document from off the desktop to end up in My Documents.

    Any tips will be appreciated.

    Thank in advance.

Right-click on START & left-click on EXPLORE. This is Windows Explorer not Internet Explorer. It displays the folders & files resident on your PC. Locate DESKTOP & MY DOCUMENTS. Left-click on DESKTOP to display its contents. Left-click & hold on the file(s) desired & drag the item to MY DOCUMENTS & then release the left mouse button. This action copies the selected file(s) to the selected destination.

An additional option is right-click & drag the file(s) to the new destination. Upon releasing the right mouse button, a pop-up appears giving you the option to:
MOVE The files are deleted from the original location & appear in the new location
COPY The original files are left intact & a copy placed in the new location
CREATE SHORTCUT The files remain intact in the original location with this link in the new location
    CANCEL Self-explanatory

Ok, you now have two copies of the document - the original one on the desktop and another just saved in My Documents.

? Why wouldn't My Documents be the place to look for it?

Actually it should appear to be both places. There should be a shortcut (a link to the document, but not the actual document file) to the document present in Recent Documents because the document was recently opened (when you saved it). There should also be the actual document in My Documents (as well as on the Desktop).

No, it would end up in the Recycle Bin or deleted permanently.

Opening the document and saving a COPY of it in My Documents will work (which is what it sounds like you did). Then the original document would be deleted from the Desktop.

An alternate way to MOVE it would be right-clicking the original document on the Desktop and choosing Cut, navigating to My Documents with Windows Explorer, and then right-clicking again and choosing Paste.
