Shower stem broke off in brass fitting
How do I remove the remnants of the shower stem from the brass fitting? The metal was fatigued and most of the thread remains inside the brass fitting. Any suggestions?

    Wlungarini:

Most likely you will need to drill and tap the stem assembly. Here, plan on finding a drill bit and matching tap and brass screw that are just slightly larger than the hole/screw present.

Then you will want to drill out the old screw (not to deep here) and then use the tap to retap threads into stem. Then screw the new washer in place and hopefully you are all set.

Otherwise, if this sounds like a hassle, you can probably find a replacement stem assembly at a local plumbing supply house... or maybe even at home depot... ;)

    Good luck!

Mark figured the "stem" was the piece that the washer attached to.
But what if the asker was referring to a shower arm,(see image) that broke off inside a drop eared ell,(see image). If this is the case click on back and I'
Ll give you directions on how to remove the threads. Regards, Tom
