I don't usually take medicine, but when coughing, a congested nose, and all that becomes too much for me, I need help. For my nose I just keep a box of tissues next to me, drink tea, or take a shower for steam to help clear it up, but sometimes they don't always work. My problem isn't completely that I want to avoid pumping chemicals and meds into my system all the time, (like some people do, and end up having to take 50 asprins to get the same effect), my other problem is that I CAN'T SWALLOW A PILL! I don't know why, my mom can't help, she doesn't know how to explain it. She's says I'm fighting it, and I'm thinking about it too much, but I don't know how to help it. I tried practicing on medium sized sprinkles, (I was able to swallow two), I've tried putting the pill in my mouth and taking a sip of water, but the water goes down, the pill doesn't. I've tried putting the pill in the bottom of my water, still doesn't work, and I've tried dry-swallowing. Is there a strategy or something? Help!

I hate swallowing pills also. Continue trying with sprinkles, just keep practicing. Water makes swallowing the easiest, but if you get yourself to worked about it, it is more difficult.

Place the pill at the back of your tongue and take a drink, don't focus on the pill, just think about taking a normal drink of water, the water will do the work for you. Make sure it is as far back on your tongue as you can place it.

There are also pill crushers that you could use.

You could use something like that to make swallowing a pill easier. You wouldn't use it for pills that need to be taken whole for time-release or extended-release purposes, though.

After crushing a pill, you could then put the particles into something like apple sauce so that it tastes better. The inside of some pills taste really nasty!
