    F-1 student, no W-2
    Hello,

In 2008 I was an international student on an F-1 visa. I have received from my university Fellowship payments, which are, according to my university's payroll "taxable to the recipient, but are not reported by the university on a tax document." The university did not withhold tax from the payments, nor does it issue a W-2 for me.

I have received in the mail an 1040A form, but I am confused as to what income to report, since I have no W-2 or any other form. The only place where my fellowship payments are recorded are my bank statements.

People from payroll directed me to the 1040ES form, but I am not sure what I need to do with it. They also told me to request a 1099T, if I need it, but I do not know what that is and if I need it.

Do I need a 1099T? Do I have to report the fellowship income? I suppose I do, but what form do I need to file, and in which box do I report my income?

One more thing, should it be relevant: in 2008 I lived only 28 days in the US. The rest of the time I was abroad for research but I maintained my student status and was receiving my fellowship from the university.

    Thanks for your help,
    Dora
