    foam insulation
Hi,I have a 40x50x12 metal building and I am thinking about insulating the ceiling with spray
foam insulation the following are questions that I would like opinions on.
    (1) how thick do I need to put it on.
    (2) how much it might cost at the thickness I will need to get decent (r) value
    (3) I live near olympia,Washington so it doe,s not get too cold like 10 to 15 degrees
    (4) can I just put bat insulation on the walls to help keep the cost down which can do myself
    thank,s
I was told that if I put bat insulation up on ceiling I would have problems with condensation on bats, but I was thinking that if I put up thin paneling I could then put bats on top of them and leave some or all of the ends
open for air flow to keep keep condensation to minumin and this will keep the cost down, thank,s

Hear is a geo map for R values.

I posted a comparison Insul Chart.

Spray foam is generally 3 times more cost than fiberglass, However I posted a site if you wanted to do it yourself.

You can put the side walls on yourself. The question is on a steel building usually its not set up for Batt insulation on the side walls.. You have a post and beam design and then the side 2x4s boards over that for the steel panels. Usually a blanket insulation is used on that for the sidewalls and ceilings or spray foam on the sides and batts in the ceiling. If you used steel panels for the roof and put the ceilings up first then you can spray foam that. Don't forget the vapor barrier faces the warm side.

I'm just wandering why not use 9" batts (R) 30 in the ceiling also since you can work from below? Spray foam needs the ceiling panels up first.

I'm a huge fan of the spray foam. I had it installed to the back of my roof deck. 21boat is right, it costs 3x the price of fiberglass batts. However, I have noticed a 30% drop in my natural gas usage! Well worth the price!
