600 Amp 120/208V ,3Phase 4wire, Main Lug Only Service
Is there still a six throw rule in the NEC that would allow for a 600 Amp 3 Phase 4 Wire 120/208 Volt Main Lug Only Service or am I required to install a main breaker. The CT cabinet is a couple of feet away.

Sorry to be so blunt, but if you are an electrician installing a "600 Amp 3 Phase 4 Wire 120/208 Volt Main Lug Only Service" don't you think this is something you should know ahead of time and not have to come to a "Home & Garden" DIY board to ask about? Or at least ask this on a professional's site like Mike Holt's?
I know I'll get a negative comment on this one but I don't care. This is something I feel strongly about.
To answer your question though, yes, NEC 230.71 does apply. The panel you describe would be considered an MDP (main distribution panel), and can have up to six breakers/handles.

I take no offence to your "blunt" reply. I commend your interest in defending the quality of the people working in the industry. In response I must qualify that I have not worked in the design aspect of the industry in 25 years. I have held licences in 3 states and multiple city's. This question came up casually and having installed or supervised the installation of many services of this type in the past I questioned whether this was still a legal practice. Me, without a current code book in hand, was assisted by you. It would not be fair for you to receive flack for providing an honest answer. Thanks again.
