Eliminating bad energies from our home
Hi, we just bought a semi detatch which has a bad history of fights and police. We also have neighbours who do not send off the greatest energies. We are having a really hard time adjusting to our new home and it feels like a constant heavy weight on us. Does anyone know how to rid these energies and protect our home from energies coming in from our attatched neighbours or from anywhere else? I don't want to reflect bad energies, I just want to block them. Thank you.

What you got to do is open up all the windows, let the cold air just run through the house for a good hour... then you got to make the sickest batch of baked beans... you and your other fuzzy then need to go through each room of the house and lay some gut-rot down, know what I mean?

That should do the trick... and if that don't work, maybe you be the bad energy and how do you get rid of yourself?

If you're moving into a new home or apartment and wish to bring in as much harmony as possible, it is smart to perform some type of cleansing and blessing on your new residence. Locations can hold the energy of previous owners or events that have happened there, and it is unlikely that it is all positive and loving. Don't take chances. While moving time is often stressful and busy, try to set one day aside before moving so that you can go to your new home and make your metaphysical preparations.

Before a metaphysical cleaning, you should give the place a good physical cleaning. Physical dirt can trap negative energy particles, and the more of those tiny pieces of dirt that remain, the more negative energy will remain. Even if the house has been cleaned well by previous residents or the landlord, give it a good once over with a rag and a natural cleaning solution, such as a gallon of warm water with a cup of kosher salt and a splash of white vinegar. This works two-fold, as the salt and vinegar not only make a safe, organic sanitizing agent, but are also metaphysically purifying as well.

Go over everything, from ceiling to floor. If the place is not freshly cleaned, such as if there are cobwebs in the closets or dust in the crevices, give it more than a once-over and clean it well. If the carpet was used, shampoo it. If it is new, give it a good vacuum.

When the home is completely physically clean, you are ready to cleanse it of it's past energies and associations. If you have any land surrounding your house, start with the outside. Outdoor places typically need less cleansing than indoors, since nature replenishes itself and there are fewer places for energies to get trapped. A simple sprinkling of purified or holy water around the perimeter often does the trick. Do not add salt to the water, or sprinkle salt alone, unless your land has completely been paved over. Salt will poison your soil and kill your greenery. An alternative to salt is cornmeal– also a representative of the element of Earth, and not harmful to plants or animals.

Usually, unless your land is particularly riddled with negativity, that's all you need to do. If you feel it is not enough, you can carry a sage smudge stick, or some smoldering sage in a heat-proof container, and walk about the premises. To further purify the land, bury clear quartz crystals at the four points of the compass on the edge of the land.

If you live in an apartment and have no land around your space to call your own, there is something you can do to try to disassociate with the rest of the house or building. Go out into your hallway, preferably at a time when your neighbors will be at work or asleep so not to disturb you, and wash down the wall that separates your apartment from the hallway with the water, salt and vinegar solution. Wash your doorway and threshold as well. Then, obtain a vial of essential oils with purifying properties, such as sage, rosemary, or sandalwood, and use it to draw banishing symbols, runes, or even words on the wall to create a barrier to negative energy. The particular symbol or words you use are not important, except that it be meaningful to you so that you can pour your own intent into the action, lending the barrier some of your own strength. The symbols can be small and discreet; size doesn't matter. Place more on your door, and around your doorjamb and threshold. You can also create a barrier by sprinkling some salt and sweeping it up against the wall, perhaps into a crack between the floor and the molding.

Once you have cleansed the outside of the house, work on the inside, which, due to privacy, should be easier. Fuming the rooms by burning dried sage or rosemary in a heatproof container is a powerful way to banish negative energies. You can also go through the house, purifying it each time with a sacred element– sprinkle purified or holy water, sprinkling with salt for earth (don't use cornmeal indoors; it will attract insects), a lit candle for fire, and a burning stick of incense or smudge stick for air.

Cleansing is not enough. You can't live in a vacuum, and if you don't fill that void, the universe will fill it for you with whatever is around. Fill it yourself with the blessings and positive energies that you wish to live around. After cleaning or cleansing, bring blessings into your new residence before anything else. Blessings can be symbolized by a number of things, for example: a hearty loaf of bread for abundance, a dove refrigerator magnet for peace, a crystal cluster for harmony, a new broom for a fresh start (never bring your old broom– it is said to carry bad luck with you). If any specific religious symbols have a personal meaning for you, such as a Celtic cross, a pentacle, or a dream catcher, bring them in first as well.

If you are setting up a permanent altar or shrine, it should be done first, before moving in a stick of furniture. After setting it up, light some candles, burn some incense, and call to your patron deities, spirit guides, or totem guardians, and ask for blessings upon your new home. You can also simply meditate in (or as close to) the center of your new home as possible and visualize the radiant Light of the universe filling every nook and corner.

When you are done, you will be ready to take up occupancy in your new residence that will be clean of all past negative associations and full of the blessings you desire.
