I received a ticket this evening in Teaneck,NJ. For not having proof of insurance with me. I do have insurance. How do I handle this ticket in question ?

1. pay it if you don't live close enough to appear in court

2. if you can appear or travel back, appear in court with your insurance card and they dismiss the charge.

3. and/or you can try to call them and see if you can supply it to them. But I would never trust to just mail it in and hope they don't lose it and hope they dismiss the case without you showing up.

Read all of the "I have a warrant" or "I have had my license revoked" from trusting that things mailed got there.

Like the other person said.show your insurance to them and they will dismiss the ticket.same thing happened to me in Mississippi.it was like it never happened. You should do this as soon as possible.

Also.new jersey is a lot bigger than where I lived. But if you can get the officers name and call him, you could be able to go to the police station and show it to him. That's how I got mine handled

If a ticket has been issued the person has to go to Court. A Police Officer, once the ticket is written and on record, cannot dismiss the charge. Only the Court can do that.

A warning, obviously, is a different thing.

That police officer has the option to shred the ticket or turn it in to his files. I know from personal experience.

In my area they are numbered. Once it's written it's turned in that same day. The Police can't hold back a ticket and wait to see if someone comes in with proof of insurance. It can be neither cancelled nor destroyed by the Police Officer.

Like you - I know from personal experience. Where are you a Police Officer?

Obviously this varies from State to State.

I don't know. I wouldn't be arguing with an expert here on the legal boards. She didn't just fall off the ole turnip truck, you know. This isn't a place where people guess at the law. In fact, it's a place where people can rely upon what they hear.

Judy has been giving the law here for quite some time. If the law she gave was bogus, she'da been run off.

Let me see my ticket book had 50 tickets in it, each numbered, the person I wrote the ticket got a copy, the department got a copy, and the court got a copy ( and I always made me a copy)

And believe me, every ticket and copy had to be accounted for. I would have gotten a day off with no pay at least for "losing" a ticket.

Also at the end of the shift, the tickets are turned in, so by the second day the court has a copy of it, at least in a court clerk office.

Now if you catch him before he turns it in, he can void it ( and be ready to explain to his Sgt why he did it)

Well, I don't know if this officer did his job wrong, but that's what happened in my case
