I currently have my dryer in the basement venting through a small window. Half of the pane has been removed and replaced with sheet metal with a hole cut for the vent.

The window is really drafty as a result.

In the summer, I'll be building a deck over this window.

Will this be a problem for the exhaust? (The deck will be treated wood.)

Should I move the vent?

New window? Cut through the wall (cinderblock)? Replace the sheet metal with insulated plywood?

What ideas might work?

I have seen so many different setups over the years it is hard to answer this one.. ;)

When you build this new deck will you still be able to access the vent hood outside? You may need to access this vent hood if it gets clogged so you should be able to access it.

If you don't think you can access the dryer vent after the deck is in place then I would definitely move the vent. I would then move it to the easiet place to access and install.

If you can access the vent hood after the deck is installed then it may be good idea to replace the tin with plywood, glued and screwed and that should get you up and running again.

The deck will be about 18" above grade, so I'll have "hands and knees" access.

I was worried about the humidity on the wood deck. A problem?

I thought about extending the vent under the deck so it vented off to its side. Maybe some strapping under the deck to support the pipe an extra 5 feet.

I agree with Mass, the extension would be the way to go. I don't know how big you are, but 18" isn't "hands and knees" to me... my big ol' butt would barely fit in that. LOL
