    New 200 AMP Service
    Hi ALL,
I have ran 2-3'0 wires & 1-2'0 wire for 200 amp feed to my new house. I was told I had to bump up to the larger wires due to the run I had to make (about 160-170' underground). I have the meter pan connected to the 2 1/2" conduit & mounted about 52" above the ground. I want to put a 200 amp disconnect on next. Should it go beside the meter pan? Also, what will be the configuration of each incoming wire, top orbottom or does it matter! Does ground to grounding rod that you bury 8' deep come out of meter can or disconnect box? Can I run smaller wire from meter can to disconnect box before entering in to house to my 200 amp panel? Thanks, in advance for your reply!

    Wow, lots of questions.

    1) That size is fine for that distance. In fact it is one size larger than typical for up to ~250'. Copper I assume? If it is AL then it is too small for any 200A service.

    2) Yes, the disconnect should go beside the meter pan. An all-in-one meter-main would have been MUCH easier though.

    3) LINE on top, LOAD on bottom. Always.

    4) Grounding electrode conductor goes in the main disconnect/panel. Most power companies have removed any requirements to have it go to the meter pan.

    5) No. Must be 2/0cu or 4/0al minimum.
