Can sueing someone hurt the co-signer?
My son did not pay for a 4 wheeler he purchased. I had co-signed for his car. Now the seller of the 4 wheeler is sueing him. He claims he is going to put a lien on his car and since I am the co-signer of the car my credit will be reiuned... this makes no sense to me. Is it possible or is this guy trying to scare me into paying off my son's debts?

If you are not co-signed for the 4 wheeler, then its unlikely he can affect you. He probably cannot get a lien on the car since there is already a loan against it.

Do you and your son co-own the car or does he own it and you are the co-signer?

I can't imagine that the company would seize a car with an outstanding loan on it to pay this debt. More likely they will look at bank accounts and wage garnishment (if it's legal in your State), following a Judgment.

Maybe the creditor will get a lien against the car - he could but I don't see it makes any sense.
