    Labor Laws in South Carolina
Labor law? I hope this is the correct forum, if not, I apologize.

My question is this. In South Carolina, if an employee is a salaried employee, is it legal for him to get paid for 45 hours per week, but work in upwards of 70-75 hours a week and not get paid for those added hours? And is it legal for him to be expected to work on weekends as well, after working the 45+ hours, but not get paid for that?

    Thank you

He is gettig paid for it, he is on salary, salary is not set on or for so many hours, it is set for the job. It is not uncommon in many salary jobs to work 80 or 90 hours per week an have to work almost all weekends.

This is generally covered by federal law. A Salaried employee is paid per week not depending on the hours they work.

Thank you for the answers. I asked only because he was put on salary so that the company wouldn't have to pay him hourly, being that he does work so much. But was told he was getting paid for working 45 hours per week.

Check with the Dept of Labor. If the company is calling him salaried to avoid paying overtime they can be in trouble. Of course he might find himself out of a job.

He's neither manager or supervisor. He's a skilled worker for an Industrial Maintenance company.
