As a product of boarding schools, and having sent my two kids through boarding school, I can tell you that they offer the best education available in the US. The top tier schools in particular give the child opportunity for exposure to a lot more educational and extra-curricular activities (sports, music, drama, clubs), than any public school can, and more so than almost all private day schools. They also give an exposure to a much more diverse student body - not just a bunch of kids all from the same town, but kids from all over the country and indeed the world. In fact, one of the major reasons these schools have such robust scholarship programs is to attract a diverse student body. And since you are in school only with kids who made it through the admissions process and who want to be there, it really makes an incredibly dynamic, enthisiaticm and engaged student body. Finally, the quality of the teachers at these schools is outstanding - the boarding school life requires a dedicated, committed staff who are fully engaged - in some cases 24 hours a day - and who are not encumbered (or hiding behind) union rules. And as with the student body, you get a diverse mix of staff from all over. So that's why I would whole-heartedly recommend boarding schools.
