    Child support
My daughter got pregnant at the age of 16 she decided to move out and move in with her dad because she did not want to move out of state with me and her other siblings, she had a baby a few months after moving out of my houshold. One year after having her baby she got on cash assistence welfare, child support took me to court and ordered a hefty amount of support to pay. I thought when a minor has a child she is considered an adult ,why was I ordered to pay for an adult when my signatures were no longer needed for her on any medical forms? They also calculated it wrong she was getting a certain amount of cash assistence a month not only for her but her daughter, they added the whole cash grant and charged me on that amount the amount of arrears added up to that . So her caseworker told me she could not give the calculations of what she was entitled to without her daughter added ,my court date is in a few weeks and I am trying to plead this to the court that they may owe me money back. Now my daughter moved back in with me and she is 18 and pregnant with baby # 2 so I am trying to get this closed . Any suggestions or advice. Tammy:confused:

Is a minor considered an adult when she has a child? Is the noncustodial parent responsible for child support if she moves out?

State laws differ on this so it matters what state you are in.

I have never heard of a parent ordered to pay support for a grandchild. That's a new one. You should have had an attorney represent you. I would strongly suggest you get one.

What state is this in so we may better answer your question. Also did you receive an order from the courts when they came after you for child support and what does it say on that order besides give us money ?

Yes the mother of the daughter could sue for child support, and I would assume that was how they were basing it not on the daughter but on the mother having custody and you owing the mother support,

I have never heard of a grandchild, unless the court confused this as being "your" child not grandchild.

I woud say from reading you did not have an attorney, so you lost because you trusted the courts

The way I read this is social services sued the mother's mother for support after the mother applied for welfare. This is a new one on me, though.
