We had our Maytag Performa Washer looked at and were told it needed a new timer to fix the spin cycle. It washes fine but doesn't spin on the normal cycle we use. I have to move it to the spin on the delicate cycle for it to spin out, then move it back to the rinse cycle to rinse, then move it back to the delicate cycle to spin out the rinse water.

Does anyone know if replacing the timer will actually correct this problem?

And if so, does anyone know where or how to get the part. Or know the part number?

We were told it would be over $300 for the repair. If we can find the part, we'd like to try fixing it ourselves. Or just buy a new washer.

Cannot be of any help without a EXACT model number. Maytag made many different Performa models.

First I would check number 15. That is the speed selector switch.

Here's an update for anyone else who may have had the same problem with their Maytag Performa washer. My husband ordered "Timer (series 10) Part # 21001325" from Searspartsdirect.com for $108.62. I'm not sure what was involved in replacing it but he commented that it was one of the easier repair jobs he had done! And the washer is back in perfect working order.

I mentioned to check the speed switch. Maytag has a service bulletin out to check/or replace the speed switch whenever you believe a timer is at fault due to loss of the spin cycle on one or more selections. According to the service bulletin the speed switch hangs up internally between two of the speeds causing a back feed to the motor and then the timer which burns the contacts in the timer out. The timer points were burnt out on your original timer because of this. That is why I told you to check the speed selector first to make sure that it did not cause your problem which it probably did.

This info is right out of my Maytag service manual addendums under Performa/speed selector/timer contacts/ check before replacement.

That is the reason I asked you to test the switch. Hopefully you will test the switch after the next timer goes bad which it will if the switch has problems..

I have model number PAV1000AWW and am experiencing the same problem. Does the service bulletin mentioned affect my model as well and if so, which switch should I replace along with the timer? On my drawing #15 is the water temp switch.

Just replaced the timer and speed switch on my Maytag for the spin cycle failing. The speed switch was back ordered. After putting the timer in the spin cycle worked fine... later, the speed switch arrived and was installed. There was a noticeable decrease in motor hum when the machine was operating. Could be my imagination but seems to work a lot better after both components were replaced.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Had the exact problem. Ordered a new timer switch, unplugged the old, plugged in the new (yes, that simple) and was back in business. It took longer to figure out how to unscrew the control panel and remove the knobs than it did to replace the switch! I thought I'd be scouring Memorial Day sales for a new washer.
