Car in the inpound, and can't afford it
What may happen if I can't afford to take my car out of the inpound? Will the company try too sue me or sell the car?

    Hi, wickedlio!

Around where I live, if a car is impounded, there is a fee that accrues every day for the impounding of the car by the company that is storing the vehicle. After a certain length of time, the vehicles that have been impounded are made available for auction.

I don't think that you would be sued. However, whether your car could be sold or auctioned off or not would depend on the laws where it has been impounded. So, it would help us to know an approximate location here.

    Thanks!

Well do you own the car free and clear or is there a lien on it ?

First the impound normally adds a new fee every day, and after a number of days 30, 60 to 90, they sell your car for the money you owe.

But if you have a lien, they may sue you for the baance you owe them still.

After a certain time (with fees piling up every day for storage) impound can sell your car and sue you for the difference between the sale price and what you owe.

In my City this happens on a very regular basis and impound handles 10 to 20, one after another, in Small Claims Court.
