Funny smell coming from light fitting
Hi I am very confused, there has been an awful smell, similar to fish coming from the light fitting in one of my bedrooms, what could it be?

Maybe something got into your house and died in the walls

I have a similar problem with a fish smell coming from the electrical panel housing my circuit breakers. None of the breakers are tripping but the top of the panel is warm to the touch.

You have a problem - Lamb used has a rating higher than that specified for the paricular fitting which contains plastic parts too. The generated heat of say 100W lamp it slowly burns the plastic housing and gives out this funny smell. It must be replaced immediately by a competent electricain not yourself. Repeat the fiiting housing the lamp must be replaced.
Once this is done you should also make sure that rating of lamp is the appropriate one for the particular fitting.

This just happened to me... I had an awfull fish smell in the basement, it was strongest in the stairwell. After looking high and low and researching blogs, etc. WE FOUND IT! It was a cracked light socket that had blown a couple of bulbs previously. It appears it was overheating maybe?? BUT CHECK YOUR FIXTURES TO MAKE SURE THE PROPER WATTAGE IS BEING USED AND IT'S NOT DAMAGED OR CRACKED. Our home is only 3 years old, this started a 2 weeks ago and once I took that bulb out the smell was gone in hours and has not been back!! There was a brown spot inside the fixture so we will replace it down the road but to have that nasty fish smell gone is a blessing!

Simple- some light fittings are manufactured using fish bone. From time to time the heat from the light bulb can produce a fishy smell especially if the light bulb has been turned off for some time.
