Venting kitchen sink under middle bay window.
Hey all. We have a big kitchen in the house we are building. We know we have to put in a vent for the kitchen sink but are unsure of how to go about it since the kitchen sink is under the middle window of a three section bay window. Anyone have any suggestions, perhaps very layman termed suggestions, lol. Thanks guys! :)

    Hi inkcrazedjen:

Basically you will need to drill holes in the studs under the 3 bay window, through all studs, until you get to an opn stud bay that will allow you to turn the vent upward and into the ceiling and through the roof (2" vent penetration is a minimum) or upstairs to tie into other vents, etc....

In my area you only need an 1.5" vent pipe so that will require a 2.25" hole in the studs at a minimum. Maximum hole size should not exceed the 2-9/16" hole saw or self-feeder drill bit.

This vent pipe should be run at about 30" to center of the pipe off finish floor and should stub out of wall to the left or the right of the sink so you can hook up the waste pipes and then join onto the vent as needed later on at plumbing finish.

The vent pipe should also PITCH about 1/4" per foot back toward the drain. In other words, if you were to pour water into the vent pipe you want it to flow back toward the drain so it will fall by gravity into the kitchen sink drain pipe.

Finally, you also want to plan on having a full size cleanout under the kitchen sink itself. In my area, we usually run a 2" waste pipe for a kitchen sink with disposal and dishwasher , so we need to install a 2" cleanout under the sink.

Let me know if you have questions here...
