    Hi,
    1. You need to get an HD receiver from your cable company. The digital box doesn't handle an HD signal. There should not be an extra charge. I use COX cable and the HD receiver is the same cost as the digital receiver.

    2. You need to hook the HD box to your DVD player. Then connect the output of the DVD to the HDTV using an HDMI cables.

    Good luck,
    Walt

If your TV has two HDMI ports it would be best (in terms of picture clarity) to plug one HDMI cable from the cable box to the TV and another from the HD DVD to the TV.

Also yes, you have to get the HD cable box to see any channels in full HD resolution, you can't get any HD channels without it.

Yes, you do have to get a HD cable boox to see full HD but, you can get an off air antenna and search for your local channels wich also broadcast in HD and you don't need a box for that.
