    Inheritance sequence of hier
Hello, I have a rather difficult situation because the possible hiers all live outside the US mostly in England.
My mothers brother & his wife emigrated to the USA 40 years ago (and also became US citizens) unfortunately my uncle died 4 years ago, and now recently my aunt has passed away.
Even though over the years we had a good contact and frequent visits we do not know if they had made a will, which makes this matter all the more complicated.

My mother and father are now the only ones of this generation still alive. My aunt had 3 sisters who have also passed away, although they all have children.
What I would like to find out is what is now the legal sequence of inheritance?
What exactly is so to speak the pecking order. So that someone (whoever is the first hier) can get on with the planning of the belongings of my aunt & uncle

I would be glad of any information regarding this situation, because my family and I would like to get all the funeral arrangements organised so that my aunt can be put to rest.

    Thank you for any advice
    Dave

If they live in the US, it may depend on what state, each probate has slightly different rules.

In general where there any children, if so they normaly go first and/or next grand children. Then brothers and sisters if there are no children.

The iffy is children of brothers and sisters in many states if there is just one brother or sister alive, they get it, the children of dead brothers and sisters don't in some states they may have a claim.

But no rea issue, you hire a probate attorney in the state they died in they will walk you though the entire process
