We had a water softerner installed 7 years ago. We've had ongoing problems with it releasing resin into our plumbling lines, causing the sink, Washing machine, toilets, etc. to get clogged. We removed the softener 6 months ago, but resin is still stopping up our lines on a continual basis. At the moment our showers, sinks, toilets, Washer, icemaker are all clogged. We can go in and flush the lines at the faucets, but that's just a quick fix. They get clogged again in a few days. The plumbing company we called said the resin is most likely trapped deep inside the lines. They said they can use compressed air to flush the resin out of the lines, but it could be a lengthly and expensive procedure- $600-$1000 - plus possibly replacing the water heater, fixtures, etc. Is this our only alternative? Any suggestions on ways we can try to rememdy this ourseles first?

Here is my suggestion, do not turn off the water coming into the water heater, put a garden hose on the drain faucet, open the faucet and let it run into a white plastic bucket, outside the house. Watch the bucket for resin, when you see a lot in the bucket, dump the water and keep running water. When you quit seeing the resin stop and disconnect the hose.

I would also open each faucet in the house, hot and cold water, and let them run, making sure that the drains in the fixtures will take that much water at one time. Do this until you do not see any resin.

You may have to do this more than a couple of times, but if I were you it would be worth saving the $1,000.
