    Dependents Relationship
I was told by someone that they used OTHER as a dependents relationship on their 1040A. Has anyone ever heard of this? I haven't.

A person can be your dependent even if you are not related.

But, where it ask for "Dependent's relationship to you", can you actually fill in the word OTHER?

While it sounds a bit strange, the use of the word "OTHER" is permitted in the Dependent relationship column on the Form 1040 or 1040A.
