Yesterday I had an electrician install trhee fans all Hunters.

The 44" Continental Hunter fan (model 23843) with the 4-light fixture seems to generate excessive heat (very hot to touch) after a few minutes of turning on the lights. I have used both 40 and 60 watt bulbs. My quetion - is this normal?

The other 2 fans (28023 Allendale - 52") installed do not seem to have this problem.

I can't find the models in question.. . But there isn't any reason one four-light fixture should generate more heat that another, with the same wattage bulbs and similar shades.

Just make sure the bulbs are within the recommended wattage, and/or try Compact Fluorescents.

Is it possible that each fan is made of a different material, thus causing the apparent heat disspated in one to be different than the other?

Just a thought.

You mean, the fan itself? As in, the fan housing acting as a heat sink for the lights? Interesting thought, I don't know if it's likely or possible.

This whole "lights heating up" thing just befuddles me. We've had posts in the past with two of the same model fan, same bulbs, in one the light seems to be getting much hotter. I've never actually seen it happen and can't dream up a reason why it would.

I am using 40 watt bulbs in the four fixtures that are rated for 60 watt max. I did change the glass enclosures to clear from a frosted type and this helped some. I realize that they should have some heat but it feels burning to touch. My concern is that something might be wrong with the wiring or sockets.

No not the fan itself - that is OK. Just the light kit package.

I can't imagine anything in the wiring or the sockets that would cause the light bulbs to be hotter. If anything was wrong electrically, the light wouldn't work properly.

Continue to use it, and keep an eye on it, and let us know if you notice any problems.
