What do I need to install a handshower and shower head?
I have a customer who wants to install a wall mounted shower head and a hand shower in the same shower system. I tried asking a tech support guy from one of our vendors and he was not helpful in the least. The customer is set on using american standard and I can't figure out how many or which type of valves she may need behind the wall.

Can anyone tell me what she needs or what information is necessary to figure out what she needs?

    Designbee...

Are you looking to rough in a new valve and all the stuff needed for hand-held shower system BEFORE setting walls/tub/shower unit in place? If so, that is the best way to do it, but parts needed to divert the water from the shower valve to the hand-held shower unit are about $150-$175 minimum in addition to the hand-held shower unit itself (see first pic.). You will also want to have a sliding shower rail... makes for nicer control and allows adjustment for height and direction of flow. I would also have the regular shower head in place and then have water to divert over to the hand-held unit separately... nicer job overall (not like the pic... pic missing separate stationary shower head)

Cheaper way would be to use parts that get mounted outside the wall. Here, you will need a shower arm diverter only and the hand-held shower unit (see 2nd picture).. and again a sliding shower rail.

Let me know more about what you want to do for the customer... and any other details you think will help... see what we can come up with... ;)

    Thanks... MARK
