Water shut off valve stem replacement
I just bought a new bathroom sink faucet and was all set to install it. When I went to shut off the hot and cold water valves under the sink the hot water valve stem broke off. I am unable to shut the hot water off now. My question is how do I replace the stem? Am I able to replace just the stem, or do I need to replace the entire valve? Please help me as I cannot afford to hire a plumber for the job. Thanks!

Before we can help we need more information. Name of faucet. Where did you purchase it? Can't you return it under warranty and get a new one? Let me know, Tom

The problem is not with the faucet, it is the water shut off valve under the sink. When I tried to shut off the hot water, the valve stem broke. So I need to know how to replce the broken stem before I can install my new faucet.

Purchase a new angle stop.(see image) and simply swap the new stem and washer assembly for the old one. Good luck, Tom

Tom gave you a good advice, see the image below will give you an idea how to replace the stem and the washer/ just remove the loosen the packing nut and you will be able to remove the stem assembly then swap it with new one, good luck.

I have a constant drip in my bathroom sink. After a little trouble shooting, I came to the conclusion that my hot water valve underneath the sink is the culprit. Kohler diverter stem (I think part #30139) won't shut off water to tub [ 6 Answers ]

I have a kohler vavle body and I took off the diverter stem with the intention of replacing it, as I wanted to put universal fit handles on, and the end of the stem was worn down (see pics). This is a three handle system. When I removed the stem, (after unscrewing the nut with a stem wrench)...

Pvc inline water supply shut-off valve replacement [ 1 Answers ]

I have a 1 1/2" (one and one half inch) pvc water supply line that leaks at an inline shut-off valve (1/4 turn type, I assume). I realize I need to shut off the supply upstream to change it out. The valve is in between 2 elbows, about 3' (three feet) apart, so there is 'room to work' to remove the...
