Born with spot on the tongue
My son was born with a whitish-yellowish spot on his tongue. Its on the right side close to the tip of his tongue The Pediatrian wants him to go to a Dentist to see what it is. No one has ever heard of this before. It hasn't changed, but I can't find any information on it. Has anyone ever heard of this?

How old is he? My son had them.. I can't remember the name.

He got them for years... different locations, and sometimes they moved! It was odd... but he stopped getting them

Found it: Geographic tongue - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sorry, Forgot my password. Had to get a new user name..
He is a year old and after he was born we noticed it. It has never moved or changed. I am scared it could be bad.

Can you tell if it hurts him?

Anyway. Go to the dentist... if they can't tell, they should refer you to a specialist.

I would say though, if there is no change over the last year, and it doesn't seem to bother him. Its probably nothing to worry about. I believe you can even get birthmarks on your tongue. Maybe?

    Good luck!

Ask your doctor why he thinks that a dentist could help? Maybe see a different doctor. It could be a number of things, like the beginning of thrush which newborns do get, especially if they are being breastfed. But I would definitely see about it in case it is something that needs immediate attention.

Yes, the child was born with this, but is now 1 year old. Thrush will not last a year without spreading.

Might I suggest an ENT doctor?

I seen a few post on this and the spot(s) are in the same area with every child. My daughter was born with the same thing and is now two and it is still there. We are going to see a ENT in a week or so. I'm very curious as to what it is... It looks like a off white to yellowish mucus blister or inflamed taste bud.

My son is 6 months old and has had a spot on the top part of his tongue for about a week now. It was pretty small but is now about half the size of a dime.
