Educate me on my DWV diagram.
    Hi everyone,
First I would like to thank the regulars that share their knowledge on this board. I have been lurking for a while and finally decided to post.

Anyway, I am day dreaming about a new bathroom upstairs and have drawn a diagram of the DWV system.

Please note: This drawing is not to scale, none of the DWV that is shown is actually present, and the distances between fixtures are just rough guesses.

Things I am not sure of:
-The best location for the 3" horizontal waste line (how low from the sub floor, how far away from the wet wall)in order to have the most desirable connections.
-If I add a washer drain downstairs within a few feet of the stack will I need to run a separate vent?

Any assistance or advice is appreciated. I am in Alameda, CA. Thanks!:)

Your plan looks consistent with UPC, ( You West Coast Experts can chime in anytime now)
The best location for the 3" horizontal waste line (how low from the sub floor, how far away from the wet wall)in order to have the most desirable connections
It will have to be low enough to keep the tub trap under the floor line. By "wet wall" would you be referring to the wall the stack's in or the wall the water raisers are in?
-If I add a washer drain downstairs within a few feet of the stack will I need to run a separate vent?
Yes! ALL FIXTURES that have a trap MUST be ventred. Sorry, a AAV isn't a option in your area. You'll have to run a vent up and revent back to a existing dry roof vent in the attic.
Good luck and thank you for rating my answer. Tom

Hi and thanks for the response. I would be referring to the wall that the stack/vents will run inside. I am wondering about this because I am currently adding floor joists under this future bathroom and did not want to block an ideal location for that 3" horizontal run (2x10 joists are parallel to this run).

One more question too: My main sewer line outside the house is 4" clay. The 3" drain line has to make a 90 degree horizontal bend into this 4" clay pipe (Fernco clay to plastic adapter will be used).

Is the following an ideal set up?

    - 4x4x3 combo wye with a clean out at the end

A 4 X 3 combo will be just fine. Good luck, tom
