Removing tub spout
I just moved into an older house that doesn't have a shower and I'm trying to replace the tub spout to add one with a personal shower attachment. For some reason I can't get the old spout of. There are no screws on the outside of the spout. I've chipped away the putty and used wd 40 but I still can't get the old spout off with a wrench. Is there something I'm missing or do I need to call a plumber. Like I said, the house is oldeer and I wouldn't be surprised if the spout has been in there for 30+ years

Depending how old your spout is The newer ones have a set screw under the spout towards the tub wall. Real old ones screwed onto a treaded pipe "nipple" If there are no set screws then its threaded on Front End Threaded Tub Spout The threaded one are very tough to spin off and it is counter clockwise.

There isn't a set screw so I'm assuming its threaded. I've sprayed wd40 behind the spout and I've beem using a pipe wrench turning counter clockwise but it won't budge.

Look under and in the spout itself and see if you can see threads there spray. Its tough on old threaded pipes. In basements sometimes we brake or crushed old iron waterlines to get apart and use heat to loosen threads. Use a hair dryer for some heat.

Tried heat and it still won't budge. Is it likely to break a pipe from the removal?

At this point maybe hacksaw through spout to expose the problem but don't cut the nipple inside. How old is the house?

Hack saw or shut off water either way the nipple has to be spun out. I would say wrench it hard but you might tear out the hole set up. Hack saw first.
