The best arrangement depends on the features of your TV and satellite receiver. Many consumer electronic manufacturers include connection diagrams in the owner's manual. Some also have electronic versions of their manuals on their web sites for the benefit of customers who cannot locate their manual.

Many DVD players have "progressive scan" function accompanied with component video connections (color coded green, blue and purple). If the TV also has component connections you should connect the DVD player to that connection.

If both the satellite receiver and DVD player have component outputs you can connect each device to the TV using those connections if the TV has two sets of component video inputs.

Older TVs have composite video inputs (color coded yellow) which can connect to the corresponding outputs on the satellite receiver and DVD player. If your TV only has a single composite video input you should be able to obtain a switch unit from many TV and/or video game retailers.

A component connection has the potential for a better picture than a composite connection.

With either component or composite video connections you should also connect the corresponding pairs of stereo sound cables (red and white).

Some satellite receivers and TVs support a digital HDMI connection, which if available should be superior to a component connection.

Considering the popularity of High Definition console video game systems, I suspect the game dealers might have component video switches to allow multiple component sources to a TV with only one component input.
