Does anyone have experience or advice about removing a pocket door? We have a pocket door between our breakfast room and dining room. We recently had porcelain tile installed in both rooms and the pocket door needs to be removed and planned off a little on the bottom because it doesn't quite clear the tile.

Well, if they are like mine (very old) you need to be able to close it to remove it. SHould just be able to lift it up off the track, then swing the bottom out a bit so it can clear the track and come out.

I don't understand your last question. What do you mean?

I don't know how much you need to "plane" off the door. You may already know this and if a 1/4 or more use a circular saw with a disposal plywood blade. Duct tape around both sides at the bottom and the mark your cut. When you use tape it helps the bottom cut edge from splintering and touch up sanding goes quick. The pocket doors should lift off the track when opened

Most pocket door are adjustable but you need to remove the trim at the top of the door to expose the cavity. Once you can see the track and the trolley look for a bolt between the trolley and the door, that's your adjustment, tighten it clockwise to raise te door.

For planeing... there's a tool out by several manufactures that could do the job without removing the door. I've seen it on TV. The following mfg/distributors have one:
Fein, Sears, Rockwell. I think Fein calls theirs the Master Crafter. Works on occillation (vibration) rather thank circular motion. Pretty nifty tool! You would use the flat blade to trim the bottom of the door off while it's in place. You don't have to worry about triming all the door width that remains in the pocket since you don't have tile there anyway.

Dremel makes a version of that tool, multimaster for about $100. If you have a Menards around you they have their own version for $39. I hope he found the adjustment I described so no cutting would be needed. You notice that this is almost a year old, right?
