Huge disablity issue ?
I'm asking regarding my mother. We have spent a numerous amount of time researching the internet as well as getting the run around when trying to receive information over the phone speaking to "SSI representatives." our concern is this "how can my mother be able to work while on disability and still receive SSI so her medical coverage is not discontinued."
My mom needs of her medication, if the med. We're to stop her life will be seriously jeopardized. (I wish not to say or explain her reasons for being on disability)
My mother has been receiving disability for 1 year now. Unfortunately, the rate she receives leaves her struggling each month just to survive. We understand that there is a "work incentive program" which will allow people on disability to work and still receive her benefits. Yet, the information for the work incentive program is more outlined for persons receiving"SSDI" as oppose to persons receiving "SSI'" (SSI is what she receives now which is a mere $6 a month. )
Is there any program/or clear information that will allow my mother to work and keep her medical benefits? Thank u to all who respond :)

Sometimes the folks on the phone are not helpful. Have you gone in person to the Social Security Office and had a conversation with a Supervisor about this topic? I don't want to tell you the wrong thing as it would be best to hear it directly from SS Office instead.

Normally disability is just that, it is either complete or partial, and the payment and benefits are paid because they can not work, since if they can work, they are not completely disabled.
But you sound like you need a disability attorney to discuss this with.

The only thing I can suggest is contacting a congressional member. They have staff members that look into this stuff.
I thought I was going to have to do it myself just to apply for regular retirement benefits.
The phone at our local office rings busy all day, maybe at night too.
So I went there and sat for a couple of hours and when I finally got to talk to a guy he was a total idiot. I applied on-line and got approval the next day.
The politicians can cut through the red tape sometimes.

Often going to an office in person gets better results than a phone call. I would go there and tell them you need to know exactly.
I know with SSDI you can work up to 30 hours before it effects your amount. I think SSI is the same.
Does she know anybody on SSI that works that she could ask?
