I'm leasing a commercial property in Michigan. The landlord has entered 3 different times without notice. Our lease agreement states that they must give "reasonable notice" I was notified at 2 p.m. that she wants to enter tomorrow at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning and I refused because I won't be there and the last time she did it she left the doors open. At 4:00 p.m. the local police department contacted me that tomorrow at 9a.m. they will assist her with a locksmith to enter the premise. What is "reasonable notice" and is there a statue or some sort of landlord tenant act that I can copy and give to the local police department?

We deal with residential leases most times, because residential landlord/tenant law is its OWN specialty... Commercial leases are a matter of contract law. So, in terms of what's "reasonable", it can't be determined here. What's important here, however, is this is CLEARLY a civil matter...

Which brings me to the POLICE... The cop's job is to investigate CRIME. There's NO crime here. This is strictly a CIVIL matter. Cops DON'T involve themselves in CIVIL law - at least they're not supposed to... So, I'd call the chief of police and tell him that if HIS COPS break into YOUR premises, you'll have them and HIMSELF arrested... If his own cops won't do it, the FEDS will.
