    Filing taxes with no income
I am a full time student and a single mom. I do get child support and grants and student loans. I want to claim my daughter on my 2008 taxes. Will I still get the child tax credit refund? Or is this even possible?

    Thanks so much!

Sorry, but if you have NO earned income, you are NOT eligible for either the Child Tax Credit or the Earned Income Credit.

That being the case, you may want to discuss with your child's father about having him claim your child on HIS tax return, since you cannot claim your child. That way, the child's personal exemption will not go to waste.

Since you are the custodial parent, you have to release the exemption to the father in writing, so you have some leverage for negotiation in this matter.
